Remains found, two charged in Melbourne

Human remains have been discovered and two men charged in relation to the murder of missing Melbourne man Brendon Farrell.

Mr Farrell, 32, was last seen by a friend on May 31 at his home in Doveton, in the city's southeast, with police and his family fearing he had fallen victim to a violent crime at the residence.

Detectives on Friday discovered suspected human remains at a house in Noble Park, which are undergoing post-mortem examination.

Police said on Saturday afternoon a 30-year-old Hampton Park man had been charged with murder and a 49-year-old Noble Park with being an accessory to murder.

They notified media earlier in the day that the pair had been arrested and were assisting investigators with inquiries.

The men were to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier this week a parkland search in Melbourne's southeast failed to shed any light on Mr Farrell's disappearance.

He had been living in a rear bungalow in Doveton for about a year and police believe a "significant violent event" took place there on the day he suspiciously disappeared.
