The Chargers defense was a big part of their success in the 12-4 season. Despite surrendering 41 points to the Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round, Los Angeles enjoyed another year of finishing as a top-10 unit.
A lot of credit goes to the players, but defensive coordinator Gus Bradley was not given the recognition that he deserves. From playing without their three top linebackers — Kyzir White, Denzel Perryman and Jatavis Brown to missing their top defensive end in Joey Bosa for the first half of the season, he managed to draw up strategic game plans to take care some of the top teams in the NFL.
There will be some changes made to the defensive side of the ball going into 2019, but they will have the majority of their key playmakers, including 2018 first-round selection Derwin James back as well as some fresh new faces.
