Relief for Notts County board as play-off decision goes in their favour

The relief was palpable on Wednesday night when Notts County’s place in the National League play-offs was finally confirmed.

An overwhelming majority of clubs voted to pass the league’s motion to determine the final league positions based on an unweighted points-per-game basis, meaning Neal Ardley’s Magpies finish third and face a semi-final against either Yeovil or Barnet at Meadow Lane with the date yet to be confirmed.

Speaking in the aftermath of the announcement, the Notts’ board of directors admitted their relief that the decision they’d championed for so long had come to pass, while passing on their congratulations to Barrow who were confirmed as champions, ending the Bluebirds' 48-year wait for a return to the Football League.

“We are very pleased that an overwhelming majority of clubs have voted in favour of the National League’s Ordinary Resolution, which we feel provided the fairest method of deciding the sporting outcomes of the season,” they said in a statement.

"Our congratulations go to Barrow on their successful campaign, and to King’s Lynn Town and Wealdstone who are promoted as champions from North and South respectively.

“We have long been preparing for this eventuality and we’re now looking forward to providing our players and staff with a safe return ahead of what we hope will be an exciting and successful play-off campaign.

“We're very sorry that our supporters can't be with us on the latest step of our journey but the club will be doing all it can to bring them the best possible information and insight over the coming weeks.”
