Relief for Dublin as scan reveals no major injury to James McCarthy's knee

Dublin and Jim Gavin can breathe a little easier over the fitness of James McCarthy after a scan reportedly showed no major injury to his left knee.

The Ballymun Kickhams man is expected to be back in action after the first game of the Super 8s campaign.

McCarthy was taken off limping during Dublin's 16-point win over Meath in the Leinster SFC Final at Croke Park on Sunday, sparking fears of another possibly knee ligament injury.

He tore his MCL back in 2016 and missed a large chunk of Dublin's campaign as a result.

But reports in this morning's Herald indicate McCarthy will be fighting fit in a matter of weeks.

Dublin will get their Super 8s campaign underway against either Cork or the team that defeats them in the qualifiers on the weekend of July 13/14.
