Relief as 'disintegrating' potholes in Nottingham repaired

Residents have spoken of their relief after "disintegrating" tarmac roads which revealed old cobblestone potholes have been repaired.

Tarmac had come away in various parts throughout The Meadows suburb in Nottingham and noticeably on Wilford Crescent West.

Nottinghamshire Live reported how the damage revealed the old road of cobblestones underneath, with potholes dotted along the busy stretch of the housing estate where many leave their cars parked and worried about damage to their vehicles.

The city council has since sent teams out to repair the damage, much to residents' relief.

Resident Jeff Martin, 65, who lives nearby, said: "It's good to have it sorted. They were here the day after the first article on the issue went live.

"Loads of cars use the road every day so it will be taking some serious wear and tear."

Kaye Matthews, a mum of two of the Meadows, 38, added: "It's been a problem for a few months now I'd say so it's good that it is sorted.

"The road tarmac has just disintegrated so it makes it a bit of a mess and there's a lot of use on the road to access homes on Glapton Road.

"You just worry about the damage it might do to your car."

The city council says it carries out regular highway safety inspections, and residents can also report problems with roads or pavements online at https://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/roadproblems
