'Relentless' - Kalvin Phillips gives verdict on Marcelo Bielsa's English, training sessions and weight targets

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips believes that head coach Marcelo Bielsa's English is actually better than he makes it out to be.

Ever since landing the post as United boss back in June 2018, the much-travelled Argentine has only ever spoken via a translator, when speaking to both his players and the media before and after matches.

Despite the language barrier, it has certainly not hindered the progress that the Championship table-toppers have made during his tenure.

Nevertheless, Phillips, who will be desperate to try and help his boyhood club achieve promotion back to the Premier League this season, should the campaign get the green light to resume because of the coronavirus crisis, believes that Bielsa can speak English a lot better than he makes out he can.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the midfielder, who has scored just once this season, explained: "I think [his English is] definitely better than what he makes out! We don't really speak too much but he can say quite a few sentences from what we have heard.

"It mostly comes through a translator. He will show us some videos before the training sessions, and sometimes he'll try some English, get halfway through then sod it off before getting a translator over.

"He is relentless, especially with his weight targets and how he goes about training every day. I never thought he would improve me as much as he has. He is on my case about my weight all the time."
