Relegation-threatened Glencairn don't care about junior final standings ahead of new era

Glencairn say they don’t care where they finish the season after West Region chiefs revealed the rest of the campaign would be axed.

The season was ended by West Region chiefs last week – less than 24 hours after the SFA revealed no football would be played until June 10 at the earliest.

The West Region have still to confirm whether the season will be considered null and void, or current standings will be final placings.

It appears to be the end of junior football with the West of Scotland League era ushered in from next season.

Glens committee member Peter Ferguson said: “We’re pleased that a decision has been made to end the West Region season, and now all of the clubs have some certainty about what’s happening.

“It was probably an easier decision to make for the West Region authorities as they knew that all 63 clubs were leaving their administration anyway, so there was no need to sort out promotion or relegation.

“It doesn’t matter to us how they finalise things now, whether it’s null and void or declaring current positions, or average points per game, or whatever they decide.

“No matter what we’re going to be in a tier six conference next season along with all the other teams.

“Hopefully once this horrible situation is out of the way the West of Scotland Football League can make a fresh start, and it’s an exciting thing to look forward to.”
