Relative of Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch dies suddenly after 'brain haemorrhage'

A relative of fugitive Gerry “The Monk” Hutch died late last night after falling ill.

Sources said that the woman died in a hospital around 10pm last night — a day after she had collapsed in her home in Dublin city.

She is understood to have suffered a suspected brain haemorrhage.

The woman, aged in her fifties, was close to the Monk who is now on the run from gardai and will not be able to come back to Dublin for her funeral.

The Monk (57) vanished last month from his bolthole in Lanzarote in the Canary Islands shortly before a European Arrest Warrant was issued against him by gardai.

Officers secured the warrant in the High Court after the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered that he be charged over the Hutch gang attack on the Regency Airport Hotel in north Dublin on February 5, 2016.

Key Kinahan cartel associate David Byrne (34) was shot dead by masked gunmen in the attack.

Gardai formally asked the DPP to charge the Monk with murder and the law office agreed.

The Monk is now on the run with police all over Europe searching for him.
