Relationship between Vikings QB Kirk Cousins and OC Kevin Stefanski is in a good place

Minnesota’s offensive identity in 2018 was a weird one behind the scenes.

The Vikings initially hired John DeFilippo as the offensive coordinator.

That didn’t work out and it seemed everyone was on a different page.

Mike Zimmer did not seem like a huge fan of DeFilippo.

Now it’s Kevin Stefanski’s job. Stefanski served as the team’s quarterbacks coach prior to being promoted, so it’s not like he needs to come in and get to know players, especially quarterback Kirk Cousins.

“I know Kirk (Cousins) really well and he knows me really well, so we don’t have to spend a ton of time together to get to know each other,” Stefanski said Wednesday. “We’ve spent enough time with each other, probably sick of each other at this point, so we have a relationship. We have a dialogue every day. I am so comfortable with the person he is and I am really comfortable with the coaching we have that’s taking place in that meeting room and out here on the field. I think our relationship, again, being one year under our belt, we understand each other.”

The relationship between an offensive coordinator and quarterback is one of the more-important relationships you can have in the NFL.

Clearly, there was some sort of void in Cousins’ relationship with DeFilippo.

Hopefully in season No. 2, Cousins and Stefanski can get a good understanding each other as people and professionals.
