Rejoice, jet-setters: Norwegian Air will soon offer free wi-fi on intercontinental flights

Norwegian has become the first low-cost airline to announce free wifi on intercontinental flights.

Whether traveling for business or pleasure, customers will soon be able to send emails (or scroll through Instagram) from the sky.

The airline is rolling out free wifi on their Boeing 786-9 Dreamliner and 737 MAX fleet. The wifi is set to be high-speed enough to stream movies on Netflix, update Twitter, and even message with friends.

Norwegian expects the rollout to be complete on more than 50 percent of the Dreamliner fleet by 2020.

Norwegian was originally the first carrier to offer free wifi on all European routes back in 2011. They then became the first Euro airline to offer live TV, starting in 2015.

Their first connected Norwegian Dreamliner took to the skies in December of last year, featuring an image of Mark Twain on the plane's tailfin - part of the airline's celebration of literary heroes.

Guests will have the ability to choose between two inflight packages. They can opt for the basic option, which is completely free and allows people to web browse, check social media statuses, and email and instant message with friends on their phone and laptops.

The above and beyond premium option means flyers can listen to music or watch shows on their streaming platform of choice for $14.95.
