The panel that Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga displayed during the announcement introducing the new era name, Reiwa, in 2019 when he was chief cabinet secretary was made available for the public to view at the National Archives of Japan on Friday.

A Cabinet Office staffer wrote the original calligraphy, which is preserved permanently as an administrative document at the archives in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.

The panels used for the announcement of the Reiwa and Heisei era names are both available for the public to view on the first floor of the archives building through Nov. 28. Admission is free.
