Reiss Nelson sends emotional message to Joe Willock as Arsenal midfielder joins Newcastle on loan

Reiss Nelson has sent an emotional message to Joe Willock after the central midfeilder agreed to join Newcatle on loan from Arsenal.

The 21-year-old has seen his first team opportunities limited this season with the bulk of his appearances coming in the Europa League.

Transfer deadline day update, verdict and Tottenham preview

Willock's game time has been restricted further with the arrival of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid, which means it's unlikely that he'll get many minutes from now until the end of the campaign.

He 16 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal this season, with his best performances coming in the Europa League where he scored three goals and made three assists in six games.

"We are discussing things with some players and some clubs, and if we do anything before the deadline, it is because we believe it is the right thing for their development," said Arteta when asked about potential outgoings on deadline day.

Willock's fellow Hale End academy graduate Reiss Nelson posted an Instagram message to his close friend after it was confirmed that the midfielder had agreed to join Newcastle.

"God bless you my brother! I will miss you 100x but it's your turn go show the world! I'm behind you my brudda!" wrote Nelson.

Meanwhile, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to complete his loan move to West Brom before the 11pm deadline.

The England international was expected to join Southampton earlier on in the day but the Saints pulled out after Maitland-Niles representatives 'took too long' in responding to the contract offer.

Other departures on deadline day for Arsenal include Zech Medley to Kilmarnock and Joseph Olowu to National League side Wealdstone.
