Reiss Nelson sends message to Arsenal after Feyenoord boss Arne Slot's swipe at Mikel Arteta

Arsenal forward Reiss Nelson has spoken out after finally making his debut for Feyenoord having joined the Dutch giants on season-long loan this summer.

The 21-year-old played the final 30 minutes of the club's 2-2 draw with RKC Waalwijk, coming off the bench in 60th minute in what was Feyenoord's second winless game in a row.

It has not been smooth sailing for Nelson on the continent, however. Within his first week with the club, he picked up a groin injury in training, leading manager Arne Slot to take a swipe at the sessions put on by Mikel Arteta.

Back in September the manager said at his press conference: "Nelson had participated in almost all training sessions at Arsenal, but he experiences the training here as a bit more intense."

But Nelson was in a positive mood after making his debut on Saturday, saying that the reception from the Feyenoord fans after coming off the bench was just what was needed.

"I got here and I got a knock in training so it kept me behind," Nelson in an interview with ESPN after the game.

"Now I'm happy I'm back with the team and back playing. It was hard [to stay patient]. I used to come and watch the games here as a fan and the atmosphere here is very good.

"This is what I want. I need the confidence from everyone behind me to give me the drive to keep going. That's why I chose a club like Feyenoord because I felt like it gives me the confidence and it's really good for me, to carry on growing as a player."
