Iconcraft, a platform in Iconsiam where Thai artists and craftsmen can showcase their talent, recently launched its newest fashion brand, Sane Sober. The brand is a brainchild of new-generation designers Thanart Boramanand and Yanakorn Phattrawanit.
The two designers, both in their 20s, met each other in a fashion design course at the Chanapatana International Design Institute (CIDI). After realising their passion for Thai traditional fabric, they decided to join forces in 2018 and gave birth to Sane Sober. Under the theme "Thai Fabric Can Be Cool", the brand aims to show off the potential of Thai designers and to preserve the art of Thai fabric, which otherwise could face extinction.
Sane Sober's Debut Collection features silk streetwear with a twist of minimalism. The silk items are of moderately vibrant colours that make them even more attractive. The collection was selected to be showcased at the Bangkok International Fashion Week 2019, which was held at Siam Paragon in March.
The most outstanding feature of the Debut Collection is that each piece is one of a kind. All items are made from existing, rather than newly-produced, silk. The handwoven silk highlights traditional patterns and colour vibrancy. It was indeed the designers' challenge to travel to various silk production sources to find the one they need. Some of the silk pieces used in this collection are collectibles aged over 10 years old. Working with such a rare silk left no room for mistakes for everyone involved with the collection.
Sane Sober's silk boasts its rough texture from rather large silk threads and unique weaving patterns. The brand's future plan is to expand their collection to other kinds of Thai traditional fabric so as to reinvent the image of Thai fabric through the brand's design and creativity.
Sane Sober is available at Iconcraft on the 4th and 5th floor of Iconsiam. Call 02-495-7080 or visit http://facebook.com/ICONCRAFTTHAILAND for more information.
