Rehearsals will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday for the Sept 6 government-sponsored thank-you party for participants in the rescue operation for 12 Moo Paa Academy football players and their coach from Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai's Mae Sai district, an official said on Sunday.
Prime Minister's Office Minister Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana said a minor rehearsal of the 'United as One' event will be held on Tuesday and a full run-through Wednesday.
He said the government has invited about 6,000 guests, including local and international rescuers, who participated in the operation to extract 12 young members of the Moo Pa Academy football team and their coach stranded by floodwaters in the Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai's Mae Sai district from June 23-July 10.
A total of 8000 guests and officials are expected to attend the event on Thursday at the Royal Plaza from 6pm to 9pm, he said.
The organising committee has been monitoring the weather and prepared tents in case it rains, Mr Suwaphan added.
The government has prepared accommodation for those from outside Bangkok at a new building at Phutthamonthon park in Nakhon Pathom.
Highway police and the Transport Ministry will be responsible for the safety of those travelling from the provinces, he added.
The event was originally scheduled for Aug 1, but the government postponed it to Sept 6 since many participants in the Tham Luang rescue were helping victims of the Xe Pian-Xe Namnoy hydroelectric project disaster in Attapeu province in southern Laos.
