Regulatory compliance work on track: Adviser

CHANDIGARH: The steps initiated by different departments of the UT administration to minimise regulatory compliance are on track, and over 50% target has been achieved, said UT adviser Dharam Pal on Monday after chairing a review meeting.

Recently, Pal had asked different department heads to submit progress report of last three months of steps initiated to improve governance reforms, make government-to-business and government-to-citizen interfaces simple and transparent. The process was started in the middle of July.

Talking to TOI, Pal said they are hopeful that the remaining target will be achieved by December-end.

However, he clarified that the work done by departments will only reflect in next year’s rankings as assessment have already been done by central team around four to five months back.

On the adviser’s instructions, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), hospitality department, estate office, environment department, forest and wildlife department, and many others have provided number of services online to city residents.

The burdensome regulatory compliance adds unnecessary procedure, time and cost for citizens and business that hinders the overall ease of living and doing business. These compliances become no longer relevant due to innovative practices and economic developments.

Among first two departments were Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) and UT hospitality department that had gone complete paperless.

An official, who was associated with the exercise carried out by CHB and hospitality department, said the idea behind was to achieve a simplified, responsive, effective and transparent working. Through this environment friendly initiative, not only has the efficiency increased, but it has also ushered in more transparency, accountability and time bound delivery of services, he added.
