Regional Mexican Band Grupo Fugitivo Missing for Days in Reynosa: Vehicle Found Without Clues

Grupo Fugitivo, a regional Mexican band from Reynosa in the northern state of Tamaulipas, vanished on May 25, 2025, shortly after performing at a private event in the Riberas de Rancho Grande neighborhood. Since then, there has been no confirmed information about their whereabouts.

Their disappearance has sparked public outcry and renewed concerns about safety in one of Mexico's most violence-plagued regions.

Families Demand Answers

Desperate for answers, relatives of the five missing musicians have organized protests and roadblocks—including a demonstration at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge—urging authorities to act swiftly. The recent discovery of the band's van has only deepened the mystery. The vehicle was found abandoned in Reynosa's La Cañada neighborhood, showing no signs of violence. However, the second vehicle that reportedly carried their musical equipment remains missing.

The families have also pushed back against rumors that the group may be involved in organized crime, calling such speculation unfounded and harmful. They have criticized what they describe as a lack of transparency and urgency from local officials.

Who Are the Missing Musicians?

The Tamaulipas State Commission for the Search of Missing Persons has issued alerts for the following members of Grupo Fugitivo:

  • Francisco Xavier Vázquez Osorio, 20
  • Nemesio Antonio Durán Rodríguez, 40
  • Livan Edyberto Solís de la Rosa, 27
  • Víctor Manuel Garza Cervantes, 21
  • José Francisco Morales Martínez, 23

In a recent statement, Tamaulipas Public Security Secretary Sergio Chávez García claimed that investigators had made progress in locating the group. However, he offered no concrete details. The families responded swiftly, denying that any of the musicians had been found and insisting they were still in the dark.

A Dangerous Backdrop

The case unfolds against a backdrop of escalating violence in Tamaulipas, a state long marred by cartel-related conflict. Just nine days before the band went missing, the state capital, Ciudad Victoria, witnessed a major shootout between rival criminal groups.

Artists and performers in the region are no strangers to danger. Several musicians have faced threats or even violence in recent years, underscoring the risks faced by those who perform in areas with heavy cartel activity.

A Call for Justice

Loved ones, fellow artists, and fans of Grupo Fugitivo continue to call for a thorough and transparent investigation. They are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help locate the musicians. Until then, the artistic community and society at large remain on edge, hoping for their safe return.
