Regime Forces Capture Arbaeen Village in Northwestern Syria

Regime troops have captured a northwestern village and are advancing deeper to the town of Kfar Zeita, which has been held by militants since 2012, Syrian state-run media reported.

The regime-controlled Syrian Central Military Media said on Wednesday that troops captured Arbaeen the night before, following intense clashes with Qaeda-affiliated insurgents.

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that Arbaeen was taken over by government troops, adding that “regime forces are at the gates” of Kfar Zeita.

Kfar Zeita is one of the largest towns in the northern parts of Hama province, and it lies on the edge of Idlib, the Associated Press reported.

On Monday, the Syrian army announced it's will to resume an offensive on the northwest, accusing insurgents of violating the latest truce there.
