Reggie Ragland followed in the footsteps of his teammates who also left the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency, posting a thank you and goodbye message to Kansas City. Ragland has agreed to terms to join the Detroit Lions in 2020, where he’ll begin his next chapter.
Ragland was one of the first players that Brett Veach brought in after becoming the general manager in Kansas City. Ahead of the 2017 season, Veach sent the Buffalo Bills a fourth-round draft pick and received Ragland in return. He was still recovering from an ACL injury at the time, but quickly got up to speed and made an impact on the Chiefs’ defense.
Ragland adjusted to a new role in 2019 in the team’s new defensive scheme under Steve Spagnuolo. He played a big part in creating the culture that led to the championship season in Kansas City. After winning Super Bowl LIV, Ragland joined an elite fraternity of players that have won both a Super Bowl and a college football national championship.
On Thursday evening, Ragland took to social media to show his appreciation for the people who helped make his time in Kansas City so special.
“Kansas City has changed my life for the better,” Ragland wrote on Twitter. “First and foremost, I would like to thank Brett Veach, Andy Reid, and the entire Chiefs coaching staff for welcoming me into this organization with open arms in 2017. To the Kingdom fans and family, you all truly made playing in Arrowhead an unforgettable experience and I’m going to miss you all. To my teammates, I would not be the athlete and leader I am without you all, I got y’all for life!”
Ragland will forever be a part of the brotherhood of players that helped bring a Super Bowl title to Kansas City after a 50-year drought. He’ll be sorely missed on both the team and within the Kansas City community.
