Look at what social media can do when it uses its powers for good, y’all. Reggie Bush might really get his Heisman trophy back from the Heisman Trust.
Amid the NCAA Board of Governor’s announcement that they were temporarily allowing athletes to profit off of their name, image and likeness, folks were calling for Reggie Bush to have his records reinstated by the NCAA and for him to get his Heisman trophy back.
Bush came out and publicly advocated for the same thing, as he has been doing for years. He said he “never cheated this game” and stands firm in his belief that his records should be reinstated.
And now the pressure is on the NCAA to get it done.
On Friday, the Heisman Trust said they were willing to give Bush his trophy back — but it came with one big caveat. They would only do it if the NCAA reinstated his records, per a statement posted online.
“Bush’s 2005 season records remain vacated by the NCAA and, as a result, under the rule set forth by the Heisman Trust and stated on the Heisman Ballot, he is not eligible to be awarded the 2005 Heisman Memorial Trophy. Should the NCAA reinstate Bush’s 2005 status, the Heisman Trust looks forward to welcoming him back to the Heisman family.”
Basically, it’s a case of “we’ll do it if they do it.” So now it’s up to the NCAA.
