Regent Shopping Centre monitoring coronavirus situation after carrying out a deep clean

Hamilton’s Regent Shopping Centre was given a deep clean at the weekend.

Customers were shocked to see cleaners spraying inside the indoor centre, wearing fully-protective clothing.

The clean sparked fears among shoppers, with many taking to social media over the weekend to voice their concerns,

One concerned shopper said: “I called the centre, they would not confirm or deny if it was true but it’s all over Facebook.

“I asked if it was safe to attend the centre and they said yes, but when I asked why a deep clean had taken place they referred me to the centre manager who I am awaiting contact from.”

A spokesperson for the Regent Shopping Centre said: “Our team at Regent Shopping Centre is closely monitoring the coronavirus situation.

“Our priority at all times is the health and safety of our customers and our employees and we have introduced new measures in line with advice from our local health authority.

“We have already implemented an enhanced cleaning regime throughout the centre and we are also ensuring that all hand dispensers are fully stocked with anti-bacterial solution. We encourage our visitors to follow the government’s advice to frequently wash their hands.

“We are working closely with all of our stores throughout this challenging period to maintain our consistently high standards and we will continue to follow advice from our local health authority and the World Health Organisation.”
