Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's production of Jesus Christ Superstar is transferring to the Barbican

What’s the Buzz? The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar is transferring to the Barbican Theatre.

Following sold out performances in 2016 and 2017, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical will run for just 60 performances from July 4 – August 24 next year.

The show won the Evening Standard Award for best musical in 2016 and the Olivier Award for best musical revival in 2017, before moving across the pond to the Lyric Opera of Chicago earlier this year.

The Standard's Fiona Mountford gave the show four stars saying that Timothy Sheader's direction "sculpted each segment into something distinct and vivid and compelling".

Sheader returns to direct, with design by Tom Scutt, choreography by Drew McOnie, musical direction by Tom Deering, lighting by Lee Curran and sound by Nick Lidster. The cast has yet to be announced.

Booking for Jesus Christ Superstar opens at 11am on Friday November 16.

Information about the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre season for 2019 will be released later this month.
