Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's 2020 season to include new 101 Dalmatians musical

A new musical version of 101 Dalmatians will open the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s 2020 season.

Theatre boss Timothy Sheader will direct the show, which will be their first-ever newly commissioned musical. With a book by Zinnie Harris and music and lyrics by Douglas Hodge, Dodie Smith’s story will come alive with puppetry by Toby Olié, who created the puppets for the National Theatre’s Pinocchio and RSC’s Don Quixote.

Sheader will also direct the season’s other musical, a revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Carousel, for which he reunites with Jesus Christ Superstar choreographer Drew McOnie.

The theatre’s annual Shakespeare play will be Romeo and Juliet, directed by Kimberley Sykes, who has led multiple plays with the RSC.

Elsewhere in the season, a new 50 minute-long daytime show called Dragons and Mythical Beasts will run, from the team behind Dinosaur World Live.

This year’s main musical, Evita, is currently running until September 21.

The new season runs from May 16-September 19 2020, openairtheatre.com
