Super Bowl LIV will be the 11th to be played in the Miami metropolitan area. Some of the games have been historic, such as the Jets’ win over the Colts in Super Bowl III, at the Orange Bowl. What do the Chiefs and Niners have in store when they meet Feb. 2 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens?
II: Packers 33, Raiders 14

Vince Lombardi’s Packers won their second straight Super Bowl. Bart Starr was the MVP for the second straight season. Don Chandler kicked four field goals and Herb Adderley returned an interception 60 yards for a TD in the Orange Bowl.
III: Jets 16, Colts 7

The brash and cocky Joe Namath turned the professional football world upside down when the New York Jets, who were a massive underdog, shocked the Baltimore Colts.
V: Colts 16, Cowboys 13

The Colts got a small measure of revenge after their shocking defeated in Super Bowl III in the Orange Bowl when Jim O’Brien kicked a 32-yard field goal to give Baltimore a 16-13 victory. The game featured 11 turnovers and the only time the Colts led was after O’Brien’s kick. The MVP went to Cowboys’ LB Chuck Howley despite playing for the losing side.
X: Steelers 21, Cowboys 17

Lynn Swann was the MVP as the Steelers took a 21-10 lead and held off the Cowboys. Swann had four catches for 161 yards and a TD. Pittsburgh QB Terry Bradshaw completed all of nine throws in the game. Dallas QB Roger Staubach threw three picks.
XIII: Steelers 35, Cowboys 31

Terry Bradshaw was the game’s MVP as he led the Steelers over the Cowboys in a high-scoring contest. Bradshaw threw for 318 yards and four touchdowns. Roger Staubach countered with three TD passes for the Cowboys, who fell behind by 18 points before closing within four on two fourth-quarter scores.
XXIII: 49ers 20, Bengals 16

The great Jerry Rice was the MVP with a stunning game that saw the Hall of Famer make 11 catches for 215 yards and a touchdown. However, it was another wideout who saved the game for the 49ers. John Taylor had one catch for 10 yards and it proved to be for the touchdown that gave San Francisco the victory. Joe Montana threw for 357 yards and two TDs. The Bengals got three field goals from Jim Breech and a 93-yard kickoff return for a score from Stanford Jennings.
XXIX: 49ers 49, Chargers 26

Talk about a mismatch. The Niners raced to a 28-7 lead in the first half, built it to 42-10 and crushed the Chargers. Steve Young threw for 325 yards with six TD passes. He also rushed for 49. Jerry Rice had three TD grabs among his 10 catches for 149 yards. One highlight for San Diego was Andre Coleman’s 98-yard kickoff return for a TD.
XXXIII: Broncos 34, Falcons 19

John Elway went out like a king as his Denver Broncos won their second straight Super Bowl. The final score is misleading as Denver led 31-6 before the Falcons added a couple late scores. Elway threw for 336 yards and a score and scored on a three-yard run.
XLI: Colts 29, Bears 17

The Colts were rocked as the great Devin Hester took the opening kick back 92 yards for a touchdown. The victory was sealed when Kelvin Hayden returned an INT for a TD in the fourth quarter.
XLIV: Saints 31, Colts 17

Drew Brees and New Orleans had a huge party as the Saints brought joy to the Big Easy with a victory over Peyton Manning and the Saints. The game is remembered by Sean Payton’s gutsy call to have Thomas Morstead attempt an onside kick, which was successful, to start the second half. The victory was sealed when Tracy Porter intercepted Manning and returned the pick for a touchdown.
