Opened back in September 2019, Refill Quarter in East Belfast wanted to offer a way to shop that appealed to an increasingly environmentally conscious city.
It was the brainchild of passionate trio Alice Wilkinson, Phil Rankin and Susan McEwen and when Belfast Live visited as part of our #Do1Thing campaign, the shop was a hive of activity.
Susan explained: "If you can imagine that maybe the family beforehand was going to one of the big supermarkets and they were getting their pasta and maybe their breakfast cereal and all their cleaning products.
"And they go home and before you know it they have their whole recycling or non-recycling bin full of stuff. I'm sure everybody's noticed that.
"Whereas now those same families are able to come here, they're able to re-use their plastic containers and they're able to bring cotton bags or other containers to get their pasta.
"It's really just that whole thing of re-using and re-purposing. Recycling should always be a last option in this mind-shift that you're beginning to do."
The shops sells everything from foods to sustainable bathroom products and Susan had some simple advice for those wanted to make a change.
She said: "People feel guilty all the time: "Am I making the right choices?" And we say, look we're all just on this journey so make little choices that you can sustain."
