Referees' chief names four VAR mistakes already made in Premier League this season

Referees' chief Mike Riley has confirmed VAR has missed four crucial decisions already this season.

VAR has caused plenty of controversy in the first four matches of the campaign, overruling some decisions while letting others go.

Riley appeared at the first meeting of the 20 clubs this week and confirmed there will be more VAR intervention.

And the PGMOL chief admitted there have been four decisions that were flawed in the first few weeks of the campaign.

The failure not to award David Silva a penalty against Bournemouth was among the incorrect calls, as was allowing Fabian Schar's equaliser in Newcastle's draw with Watford .

Riley also confirmed Leicester's Youri Tielemans should have been sent off against Bournemouth and a penalty should have been given to West Ham striker Sebastien Haller in the win over Norwich.

"Of the four rounds of matches, there have been some really good examples where we have intervened," Riley told Sky Sports

"Six times where VAR has advised the referee and we have got a better result

"There are four incidents where VAR didn't intervene. They were about the judgement of VAR and the processes we adopt."

"It is a combination of factors, we are constantly learning. A judgement decision, a process mistake, others it was looking at not disrupting the game.

"The judgement should have been there was a clear and obvious error.

"One of the good things of the first four matches has been the quality level of performance of referees."
