Referee confirmed for Manchester United's Premier League fixture vs Southampton

Manchester United's trip to Southampton on Sunday will be officiated by Craig Pawson, the Premier League have confirmed.

United opened up their campaign for the new season with a highly impressive 5-1 win over Leeds thanks to a Bruno Fernandes hat-trick along with goals from Mason Greenwood and Fred while Paul Pogba chipped in with four assists.

Southampton's first game of the season didn't go so well, as they were defeated 3-1 by Everton despite taking the lead early on in the game.

They'll meet at St Mary's in Sunday's afternoon kick-off, and the man in the middle will be Pawson, who refereed Leicester's 1-0 win over Wolves on the opening day.

Pawson last refereed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side in their 2-1 defeat to Leicester at the back end of last season at the King Power Stadium, when United were forced to play a hugely rotated side after being scheduled for three games in five days.

He will be joined by assistant referees Ian Hussin and Richard West while the fourth official will be Jarred Gillett. VAR will be overseen by Andre Marriner and he will be assisted by Lee Betts.
