Referee announced for Wolves vs Chelsea - and it's fantastic news for Frank Lampard

The referee has been announced for Chelsea's Premier League clash against Wolves this afternoon

And it's great news for Frank Lampard as he bids to win the second game of his reign as head coach.

It was Maurizio Sarri in charge the last time the Blues visited Molineux in a game which finished 2-1 to the hosts thanks to second half goals from Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota to cancel out Ruben Loftus-Cheek's opener.

Hopes of Chelsea avenging that loss this afternoon have been somewhat boosted following news of the referee appointment.

Graham Scott will take charge of the clash at Molineux and the Blues did have a good record when he was the man in the middle in last season.

The 40-year-old oversaw two Chelsea games in the Premier League in 2018/2019 - vs Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham and the Blues won them both.

Although Scott was supposed to have already been in charge of a Chelsea game this season when the west London outfit dropped points at home to Leicester City last month.

But after getting stuck in traffic on the M40 he was late and had to be replace Oliver Langford, who had never refereed a Premier League match or officiated a fixture with VAR in place.

Scott arrived just 10 minutes before kick-off and ended up overseeing fourth official duties as the hosts drew 1-1.

Fans may settle for a point against a side which had a very good record against the top-six sides last season.

However, after letting a two-goal lead slip against newly-promoted Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge before the international break Lampard probably won't want his short his tenure as Blues head coach to read; six game across all competitions and one win.

Overall, the official from Oxfordshire has refereed four games across all competitions involving the Blues ever since his first in 2014 and that's yielded not a single defeat for Chelsea.

VAR will also be in use with Chris Kavanagh and Adam Nunn undertaking those duties.
