Referee announced for Tottenham vs Man United - and it could be a good omen for Jose Mourinho

Jonathan Moss will be in charge for Tottenham's first Premier League clash in more than three months, against Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho's men return to action this Friday night with a tough clash against United, one that could prove pivotal as Spurs look to climb back towards the top four.

But ahead of the game, Tottenham may have been handed a bad omen in the form of referee Jonathan Moss, who is set to take charge of the behind-closed doors clash with Eddie Smart and Neil Davies his assistants.

Andre Marriner is the fourth official, while Graham Scott will oversee VAR.

Moss has only refereed two Spurs games this season, a 1-1 draw with Burnley and a shock 3-0 defeat to Brighton.

Friday night will be Moss' first experience of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, though.

Moss has taken charge of three United games this season, with two of those games also coming against Brighton and Burnley, coincidentally.

The 49-year-old oversaw United's defeat to Burnley, a win against Brighton and a draw with Wolves. The last time Moss was in charge of a Spurs and United clash was in 2017 when Anthony Martial scored the winner.

Moss also ran rule over a United's 1-0 win over Tottenham in 2015 when Kyle Walker scored a decisive own goal.

With that said, Moss' appointment could actually a good omen for Spurs.

Moss has twice refereed Tottenham vs Manchester United - albeit at White Hart Lane - and on both occasions the home side avoided defeat.

It was a goalless draw in December 2014, before Spurs beat the Red Devils 2-1 in the final ever game at the Lane.
