Referee announced for Leeds United vs Stoke City - and it's bad news for Marcelo Bielsa

The referee has been announced for Leeds United's Championship fixture against Stoke City on Thursday evening.

And it's not great news for Marcelo Bielsa as he bids to ensure the Whites getting back to winning ways at home following a disappointing 1-1 draw against Luton Town last time out at Elland Road.

This is the third and final meeting between the two sides this season.

United won the reverse league clash 3-0 at the bet 365 Stadium right at the beginning of the campaign, but the Potters gained a measure of revenge by winning a Carabao Cup second round penalty shoot-out a few days later.

And Leeds' hope of winning the final game of this mini-series has been somewhat dented following news of the referee appointment.

Darren Bond will take charge of the clash at Elland Road and Bielsa's side don't have a good record when he's been the man in the middle for home games down the years.

In fact, Bond has overseen a Leeds home defeat at the hands of Swansea City as well as a home draw against Preston North End this season.

Of the 12 times the official from Lancashire has taken charge of a Leeds United fixture across all competitions since his first in the 2013/14 season, only twice have the Whites been successful at Elland Road.

That was against Millwall last season and Brentford in December 2016.

Perhaps one saving grace is that Bond did referee Leeds' away win over Reading in November and have lost just one of the last nine games in which he's been the official.

In addition, he's not exactly a lucky omen for the Potters with four defeats from six games he's taken charge of.

This will be the third Stoke game Bond has officiated this season - the opening day defeat to Queens Park Rangers and goalless draw with Blackburn Rovers in February.

James Mainwaring and Steven Meredith are the assistant referees, while Matthew Donohue will be on fourth official duty.
