Referee announced for Arsenal vs Burnley - and it's fantastic news for Unai Emery

The referee has been announced for Arsenal's first home game of the 2019/2020 Premier League season against Burnley.

And it's fantastic news for Unai Emery as he bids to make it two wins from two in his second term as head coach at the Emirates Stadium.

In the corresponding fixture last season, the Gunners ran out 3-1 winners thanks to a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a late strike from Alex Iwobi - now of Everton following his £40m move on transfer deadline day.

In fact, the north London have a fine record against the Clarets down the years.

Hopes of keeping that record intact on Saturday afternoon have been boosted following news of the referee appointment.

Mike Dean will take charge of the clash at the Emirates Stadium and the Gunners do have a good record when he has been the man in the middle since September 2015.

Just last season The 51-year-old oversaw five Arsenal games across all competitions - including the the Gunners' trip to Turf Moor back in May - and Emery's side were victorious in them all.

Three of those games were at the Emirates and interestingly Alexandre Lacazette found the back of the net in three of them - vs. Brentford in the Carabao Cup as well as vs. Tottenham Hotspur and Cardiff city in the Premier League.

Emery will hope it's sixth time unlucky as a win for the Gunners would put them top of the table - even at this early stage of the new season - albeit temporarily as Brighton, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are in action later in the day.

Overall, the official from Heswall has refereed 69 games across all competitions involving the Gunners ever since his first in 2000 and that's yielded 32 victories and 16 losses.

Darren Cann and Dan Robathan are the assistant referees, with Peter Bankes on fourth official duty at the Emirates Stadium.

VAR will also be in use with Chris Kavanagh and Andy Halliday undertaking those duties.
