Reese Witherspoon shares update on Legally Blonde 3

Reese Witherspoon has revealed she has been in talks about a new sequel to her 2001 film Legally Blonde.

The actor, who starred as law student Elle Woods in both the original film and its 2003 sequel, told Ellen Degeneres that there have been discussions about a third instalment.

“We're meeting about it. I mean, we're definitely talking about it. I don't know. Do you guys want to see Legally Blonde 3?” Witherspoon asked the audience. “I mean, it's sort of about women being underestimated and I think it's a good idea — that things have changed, but not that much has changed!”

Legally Blonde follows the optimistic but naïve Woods as she decides to pursue a law degree at Harvard University in order to win back her boyfriend – ultimately discovering she has a natural talent for the law, and is far smarter than people first assume.

The last update on the sequel was provided by Witherspoon via a video of herself wearing a pink bikini and floating in a pool, recalling a scene from the original movie.

The Oscar-winning actor’s production company Hello Sunshine is expected to start work on the film this year, with a release date currently scheduled for February 2020.
