Reece Oxford leaves West Ham in loan transfer to Augsburg

Out of favour West Ham defender Reece Oxford has completed a loan move to Bundesliga side Augsburg until the end of the season.

Oxford, 20, has not made the first team squad all season under Manuel Pellegrini and has repeatedly been told by the Hammers boss to find a new club this month, whether on a permanent or temporary basis.

The £20,000-a-week youngster rose to prominence following an impressive debut against Arsenal under Slaven Bilic but spent the majority of last season on loan with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany and has underwhelmed for the West Ham U23s this term.

Oxford revealed his frustration at the situation in November having watched the likes of Declan Rice and Grady Diangana progress from the academy.

“I sit on the settee and feel angry," Oxford told the Sunday Times. “I don't want to be there – I want to be on the pitch, playing against these big teams. I've just got to find my way.

But if I am not playing, I hope West Ham would look kindly on my situation and let me go, because there is no point being 20 and not around the first team. Hopefully everyone wants me to fulfil the potential they have seen.

“The club has done a lot for me. Given me my debut, made me the player I am. I could never talk down the club but right now I need to be playing and if West Ham are not playing me, I've got to move on and part ways."

Augsbury currently sit 15th in the Bundesliga and face Mainz on Sunday.
