Reece James shares new injury update from Cobham as Chelsea wait for captain’s return

Reece James has provided a positive injury update as the Chelsea captain bids to finally put an end to his fitness nightmare.

The England international officially took the armband over the summer, representing a remarkable rise from the club’s youth team.

Like last season, however, the 23-year-old has seen injury problems mount and has not played in Mauricio Pochettino’s team since their draw with Liverpool on the opening weekend.

Pochettino has been at pains to stress the Blues skipper will not be facing an extended period out and the international break offers a natural time to work on fitness, with James not involved with the England camp.

Instead, James posted a photo of himself training at Cobham with the caption: “Back to it soon.”

Malo Gusto was brought in as back-up in January and has since started to make headway under Pochettino but getting James back up to full speed will be a major boost.

The pressure is on after Pochettino started the season with losses to West Ham and Nottingham Forest during the opening four games, particularly after another summer of big spending.
