Reece James sends social media message after medical emergency in Watford vs Chelsea clash

Reece James has posted a message on his social media page in support of the fan who was taken ill during the Watford vs Chelsea clash at Vicarage Road on Wednesday night.

The game was suspended just ten minutes in after a medical emergency in the Graham Taylor Stand, with the match not restarting again until 8.05pm, having kicked off initially at 7.30pm.

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso was the player to get referee David Coote's attention and the man in the middle took the decision to take the players off the field while the incident was dealt with.

It was confirmed after the players returned to the pitch that the fan had suffered a cardiac arrest, but was "stabilised" on the way to hospital.

Both teams, Watford and Chelsea issued messages of support to the stricken supporter and more messages are sure to follow once the match ends.

But one Chelsea player, not in the matchday squad due to an injury suffered in training, has been watching on and posted a message of support on his official Twitter account.

James said: "MY PRAYERS ARE WITH THE FAN NEEDING MEDICAL ATTENTION," with a praying emoji and a fingers crossed emoji.

It is the second time a Premier League clash has needed to be suspended due to a medical emergency this season, with the game between Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur halted during the first half at St James' Park in October.

On that day, referee Andre Marriner was alerted to the incident by Spurs star Sergio Reguilon, with both sets of players also taken off the field while the fan was tended to.
