Reece James sends Manchester United player Angel Gomes message amid Chelsea transfer rumours

Chelsea youngster Reece James has responded to Angel Gomes after the Manchester United midfielder praised him earlier in the week.

Gomes ran an Instagram Q&A on Tuesday in which he invited questions from fans regarding his lifestyle and experiences in football.

One of the questions asked Gomes who is the hardest defender he has ever faced in his career, to which he replied by naming the Chelsea full-back.

James was evidently humbled by the praise from Gomes and took to his own Instagram account to share the answer along with a praying hands emoji.

The praise comes at a time when the 19-year-old is being linked with a move to Chelsea to play alongside James at the end of the season.

Gomes is out of contract at Old Trafford this summer and has been offered new terms to stay at his boyhood club, but is yet to sign an agreement.

Speaking earlier this year Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reiterated his desire to keep Gomes at the club.

"With Tahith, we're very happy he sees his future here, we can see a good player there and we'll give him time to develop," Solskjaer said following Tahith Chong's contract renewal.

"That is the same with Angel. We hope we can convince him in the near future and long term future that he's a Manchester United player."
