Reece James' message after dramatic equaliser in Chelsea's thrilling draw vs Ajax

Reece James was the Chelsea hero on Tuesday night.

The Blues' full back was bought on as a half time substitute by Frank Lampard with his team trailing 3-1 at the half way point in the game and Lampard's men would find themselves further behind in the second half.

At 4-1 down, there didn't look a way back for Chelsea, but Cesar Azpilicueta's goal did show that there may have been a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.

Not too long after the captain had reduced the deficit to two goals, things started to turn in the Blues' favour. The referee awarded a penalty for handball before showing yellow cards to Ajax's Daley Blind and Joel Veltman.

Jorginho made no mistake from the spot to score his second goal of the match.

Then it was time for James to step up. When Kurt Zouma's header from a corner rebounded from the bar, it couldn't have fallen better for the youngster, who smashed the ball past the onlooking Ajax goalkeeper.

Things could have got even better, but for VAR rulling out Azpilicueta's goal minutes after.

Chelsea 4-4 Ajax: Frank Lampard post match press conference

James' goal led to fans demanding that Lampard gives him a starting berth for the Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Following the game, the player himself has taken to social media, his words summing up the emotions of Chelsea fans.

"What a game! Never give up," he wrote.

The goal meant that the teenager became the youngest Chelsea player to score in the Champions League.
