Reece James' Instagram message to Man United wonderkid amid talk of becoming Chelsea teammates

Chelsea wonderkid Reece James has responded to praise from Manchester United teenager Angel Gomes.

The latter took part in a Q&A session with supporters this week and was asked who was the hardest defender he's come up against in his young career thus far.

To which Gomes responded by saying naming the Blues right-back.

This caught James' attention and it's safe to say the 20-year-old was flattered by what the United youngster had said.

So much so that he responded via his own Instagram account.

Taking a screenshot of Gomes' answer, James uploaded the image and accompanied it with the prayer hands emoji as he thanked the midfielder for his kind words.

This social media exchange comes at a period where there's talk of the players becoming teammates at Stamford Bridge in the near future.

Just a few weeks ago rumours began to circulate regarding the Blues' apparent interest in the attacking midfielder.

Frank Lampard is said to be "particularly keen" on Gomes, and his utilisation of young players in the squad this season could be the key in determining the United wonderkid's future.

However, the Red Devils are said to have offered Gomes a new contract worth £25,000-per-week in a bid to ensure he doesn't join their Premier League rivals

The Metro state that United feel it is a generous offer for a 19-year-old, with Mason Greenwood's recent renewal as a benchmark for academy graduates hoping to make the step up to the first team.

Meanwhile, United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated he wants to keep the midfielder.

"With Tahith, we're very happy he sees his future here, we can see a good player there and we'll give him time to develop," Solskjaer told reporters after Tahith Chong committed his future to the club.

"That is the same with Angel. We hope we can convince him in the near future and long term future that he's a Manchester United player."
