Reece James has already outlined his primary Chelsea ambition after hitting latest milestone

Reece James played his 100th game for Chelsea on Saturday as the Blues were defeated 3-2 by West Ham.

Although the day didn't go exactly how he wanted it to, he's already had plenty of successes in blue and is expected to keep on getting better and improving as the years go by.

To have played 100 games for a club like Chelsea at the age of 21 is a tremendous feat, but his father, Nigel James, has insisted that he is grounded.

Instead, he's determined to keep on improving, and one day, he'd like to be honoured by being appointed the captain of the club he supports.

Speaking to the Athletic, James' father said: “100 games… you just sit there and think, ‘Wow’. To do that at 21… there are some people who play 300 in their career.

"But I’m not emotional. The part where I will be emotional is the day he becomes Chelsea captain. That’s his ambition and mine as well.

“Didier Drogba was a legend and so was John Terry. But Reece has been at Chelsea since he was six. There isn’t a player who has been there that young and gone on to wear the armband. The goal is to be the man that, when you hear Chelsea, you think Reece James.”

James is likely to be handed his 101st appearance for the club on Wednesday, as the Blues travel to Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League.

The current holders of the competition have already qualified for the next round alongside Juventus. Both teams are on 12 points heading into the final game, but the Blues have a far superior goal difference after beating the Turin-based side 4-0 last month.

James will be looking to continue his fine run of form this season that has seen him get five goals and five assists in 16 goals in all competitions, and take him a step closer to the ultimate aim of wearing the Chelsea armband.
