Reece James gives injury update ahead of England’s World Cup clash with Mexico

  • Reece James has missed England’s last two matches at the World Cup due to struggling with a hamstring problem.
  • The right-back is facing a race to be fit for England’s last-16 clash with co-hosts Mexico at the Azteca Stadium on Sunday night.
  • James walked through the mixed zone after England’s 2-1 win over DR Congo on Wednesday and gave an injury update to David Ornstein of The Athletic , telling him: “It’s OK. I’m feeling good”.
  • James’ potential return to face Mexico would be a major boost for England as right-back has emerged as a problem position for Thomas Tuchel at the World Cup.
  • With James injured, Tuchel has tried Jarell Quansah, Djed Spence and Declan Rice at right-back, and none of the trio have managed to make the position their own.
