Redzone Covid areas with Dublin 'hotspot' double national average as worry grows

The Delta variant continues to spread across Ireland, leading to a surge in cases.

On Friday, the Department of Health confirmed 1,189 cases of the virus, with 23 Covid-19 patients in ICU and 95 in hospital.

Ireland's Covid-19 data hub has been updated for the 14 day period of July 6th to July 19th, releasing the breakdown of figures for each local election area around the country.

Overall, Dublin has the fifth highest incidence rate in the country.

Some key hotspots are seeing figures spike in the capital.

Here are the local areas in Dublin with the highest incidence rate of Covid-19.

Ongar has the highest incidence rate in Dublin with a rate of 577.7 per 100k people, over double the national average of 245.8.

The area had 207 confirmed cases of Covid-19 during the period of July 6th to July 19th.

The second highest incidence rate in the capital is Howth/Malahide, with a rate of 445.3 cases per 100k people. In the 14 day period, 250 cases were detected in the area.

In third place is Firhouse/Bohernabreena, who's incidence rate is 424 cases per 100k residents. 145 cases were confirmed in the area in the last 14 days.
