Reduced ScotRail train services running in Glasgow this week for new year

It’s that time of year when everyone heads out into the city centre in search of Hogmanay fun - but do you know how you’re getting home over the next few days?

With reduced services running on ScotRail trains throughout the week, we’re taking the hassle out of your journey home with a handy guide below.

It’s worth bearing in mind that there are no trains at all on New Year’s Day - so you might want to budget for a taxi home from that Hogmanay bash.

And if you’re hoping to hop on a Queen Street or Central service in the days surrounding January 1 then you’ll have to do it earlier than usual.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening day to day this week:

December 30 (Monday)

Trains are scheduled to operate as normal across the country - so if you’re unlucky enough to be stuck in work today then you’ve no excuse for being late. Sorry!

Hogmanay (Tuesday)

Services will run as normal before being reduced around 8pm. The last train from Queen Street station high level to Edinburgh departs Glasgow at 8.46pm.

New Year's Day (Wednesday)

No trains are scheduled to run.

January 2 (Thursday)

A reduced service will be in place on most routes, with trains departing later than usual in the morning. The first train from Glasgow Central to Newton, for example, leaves the city at 8.46am.

January 3 (Friday)

Services return to normal.

If you need to check an individual route then ScotRail’s festive timetable is available here.
