Redskins vs. Jets is Washington’s last real chance at victory this season

The Washington Redskins have a rare opportunity next week; they have a great shot to win a football game. As the team closes out their bye week and starts preparing to host the New York Jets, they might be facing their last reasonable chance at a victory this season.

The brutal truth of it is that both teams in this game would be better off taking another loss, as it betters their chances at a top draft pick in 2020. At the moment, the Redskins are early 1.5 point favorites at home, and they will likely have a bit of energy coming into the game, as rookie QB Dwayne Haskins gets set to make his second career start, and second-year RB Derrius Guice returns from the injured reserve.

If you looked ahead at Washington’s schedule for the rest of the year, it grows hard to find a win somewhere in there. There might be one hiding in Week 12 against the Detroit Lions, or maybe in Week 16 against the New York Giants, but it’s unlikely that the Redskins will beat the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, or Dallas Cowboys.

So embrace this next week, Redskins fans. It will undoubtedly be the last time they’re favored to win a game, and it might be their best chance to get a W for the rest of the season.
