Geron Christian gets the nod in a notable Washington Redskins starter battle as of the team’s first depth chart release.
The Redskins make sure to slap the “unofficial” tag on the depth chart they released over the weekend, and for good reason.
Christian is notable though at left tackle for coming out ahead of new arrival Donald Penn.
The 2018 third-round pick is not often talked about for the Redskins in the wake of the Trent Williams holdout. But he’s a valuable swing backup who indeed has some plus-starter traits if given the time to develop.
But the general consensus was Penn would end up the starter given the money the Redskins paid him to come aboard, not to mention his experience in the league.
This is unofficial now and perhaps just a formality, but it is also a possible reminder that things could still play out in unexpected fashion at left tackle if Williams indeed doesn’t return.
