Redskins trade up to No. 26, select EDGE Montez Sweat

After securing Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins with the No. 15 pick, the Washington Redskins decided to jump back into the first round of the 2019 NFL draft.

The Redskins acquired the No. 26 pick from the Indianapolis Colts and selected Mississippi State edge rusher Montez Sweat.

Sweat is a 6’6″, 260-pound edge rusher who at one point was billed as a top-10 pick before a possibly misdiagnosed heart issue seemed to dash his stock.

The Redskins had him high up enough on the board to justify a move up though, especially after losing a pass-rusher like Preston Smith in free agency.

Terms of the trade came from ESPN’s Field Yates, who revealed the Redskins coughed up No. 46 and a 2020 second-round pick.

The Redskins were always pegged as a wild card ready to make a big splash. Most thought it would come in the form of moving up for a quarterback, so Haskins falling into their lap meant making a big move elsewhere.
