Redskins trade for QB Kyle Allen, former Carolina Panther

The Washington Redskins have found their back-up quarterback, trading for Carolina Panthers QB Kyle Allen.

This seems like an easy decision for the Redskins, as new coach Ron Rivera oversaw Allen’s first two years in the NFL last season with his former team. Allen will now come into Washington to compete with rookie QB Dwayne Haskins right away.

After Cam Newton was injured in 2019, Allen stepped up and showed a lot of promise as a passer for the Panthers. He started 12 games, going 5-7 during that time while throwing for 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. There was at time during the middle of his run as the starter where the NFL media circles became very impressed with the Young QB, thinking that the Panthers might choose to keep him and rid of Newton this offseason.

Bringing in Allen will likely ignite the ‘very competitive’ QB competition that Rivera mentioned this off-season as well.
