Redskins to sign edge Andrew Ankrah after AAF’s closure

The Washington Redskins are the latest to make a move after the AAF closed its doors, signing pass-rusher Andrew Ankrah.

Ankrah is a former Orlando Apollos star who wound up as one of the league’s better players when it comes to generating pressure.

The signing will hinge on a physical as expected, but Ankrah is a versatile player who can play from the edge or standing up, making him a good depth piece for a multiple front.

Washington has plenty of need in the pass-rushing area, so this is an interesting move from the front office ahead of the draft. It doesn’t eliminate the need by any means, but it does soften the blow if they end up going with something else early.

The young defensive lineman was a standout player at James Madison University, and he earned Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year honors for his 45 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2017.

Based on the AAF signings happening around the NFL, the Redskins might end up considering other players from the closed league, too.
