Redskins think Ereck Flowers can start at guard

The Washington Redskins like what they see from newcomer Ereck Flowers so far.

Flowers, a first-round pick in 2015, has already bounced around with two different teams before landing with the Redskins. But so far, offensive line coach Bill Callahan thinks the team might have found a gem who can start.

“Oh, yeah, I think so,” Callahan, said, according to the Washington Post’s Les Carpenter.

He continued: “He’s long, he’s square, obviously he can play in the short area, so those are things we kind of identified during free agency that we liked, and we are trying to fit him into that mode. So it’s been a work in progress, we got a long ways to go yet, but he’s made a nice transition.”

Third chance or not, sometimes all it takes is the right team to unlock a player’s potential — and an endorsement from a line-slanted mind like Callahan is a big deal.

While the Redskins did invest in some rookies on the interior like Ross Pierschbacher and Wes Martin, it certainly sounds like Flowers has an advantage in this competition ahead of training camp.
