Redskins take Kyler Murray in new mock draft

Quarterback is certainly an option for the Washington Redskins at 15th overall in the 2019 NFL draft.

This wasn’t the plan, of course, until Alex Smith went down with an injury. But it opens up the outlook and could indeed include someone as polarizing as Kyler Murray as an option.

Bleacher Report’s Mike Tanier made that exact pick for the Redskins in a new mock draft:

Assuming Murray measures out to be at least as big as your typical middle school small forward and can look GMs in the eye and say “I’m passionate about football” without needing cue cards this week, he has the on-field tools to develop into a cross between Baker Mayfield and Russell Wilson. And Washington certainly needs a quarterback with Alex Smith’s professional future in doubt.

It would be hard for the Redskins to pass on a prospect like Murray given his electric college performance and the chance he’s truly capable of turning into a starter at the next level.

Granted, the Redskins have plenty of other needs to address. But as the trade for Smith in the first place emphasized, the front office does understand little can proceed without a competent player under center — though Bruce Allen has said the Redskins don’t have to feel locked into quarterback in the first round.
