Redskins still looking for a Paul Richardson breakout

Through two games, Washington Redskins wideout Paul Richarsdosan has looked like his 2018 self.

After joining the Redskins last year via free agency, the former Seattle Seahawk only put up 20 catches over seven games while battling injuries.

This year, Richardson has caught seven of his 10 targets for 52 yards and a score.

For head coach Jay Gruden, some of this comes down to other offensive problems. He told ESPN’s John Keim that “there are a couple routes where he’s running by people. …just haven’t gotten him the ball.”

In the interim, rookie Terry McLaurin has had a breakout year with 187 yards and two scores already. Trey Quinn is the next wideout to actually make the list on the receiving chart, all the way down in fourth. Richardson is fifth behind him.

Richardson has always been a big-play artist, but defenses clamping down without a dynamic back in the backfield, an up-and-down offensive line and a veteran without the strongest arm have hindered Richardson’s production.

Unless some of these factors change, Richardson might continue to have a quiet season.
